Why Beauty Matters...it's more than skin deep.
/Nutrition and beauty are intertwined.
When your diet is full of healthy foods, there are plenty of nutrients to go around. When your diet is lacking, your body prioritizes what gets nourished first. Your internal organs (heart, kidney, lungs, etc.) are the first to get important nutrients because they are essential to survival while your hair, skin, and nails (things that show your outward beauty) are the last. This process keeps us alive...we wouldn't want to have beautiful skin without a beating heart!
The downside is that a poor diet shows up in how you look. If you want to have the ingredients to be pretty, then you must have a nutrient-dense diet that provides enough nourishment for every layer...starting on the inside.
Survival of the prettiest...
Throughout time, we have been attracted to beauty because it is a sign of good health. Pretty skin, hair, nails, and even facial symmetry (from pre-conception and pre-birth nutrition) are determined by how many nutrients we have to go around.
Life needs good food
We need EXTRA nutrition when we are under stress, sleep-deprived, using drugs (prescription, over the counter, or recreational including cigarettes), exposed to toxins, exercising heavily, leading busy lives, pregnant or breastfeeding. These things burn through our health reserves and need dedicated replenishing.
As we grow older, our lifestyles and nutritional deficiencies begin to take a toll. We lose skin elasticity, our hair turns gray, and we feel dull and unattractive. Those that lead extra hard lives age prematurely. This can be seen in the complexion of a smoker or in the early graying of numerous presidents.
Clean eating and superfoods!
I teach nutrition because it is the foundation of good health. The body is made up almost entirely of what we consume. Every one of our cells is made up of food and the nutrients inside our cells determine our health. I recommend that everyone eats a clean diet made up of whole, unprocessed ingredients and as many superfoods as possible.
How are YOU nourishing your beauty?
I look for signs of proper nutrition on the face, hair, skin, and tongue. There are so many visible signs of your nutrition status...now you can understand why. This nourish from the inside out mentality is also the reason why the field of aesthetic nutrition is on the rise. More and more people are coming to realize that beauty starts with proper nourishment.
